BIOGRAPHY
Rebecca Halford is a contemporary painter based in Boulder, Colorado. Long before she thought of herself as an artist, she was fascinated by stories. An avid reader from an early age, she was drawn to books that provoked the imagination and explored the complexities of being human. Over time, storytelling found a new form through painting, where color and composition became another language for expressing emotion and connection.
Rebecca has always been drawn to making things by hand. As a child, she discovered the excitement of creating something that had never existed before, a realization that still shapes her work today. Working primarily in acrylic, she paints from her Boulder studio, creating expressive contemporary paintings inspired by everyday life, memory, people, animals, and place.
Her work has been exhibited in Colorado, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, including Ghost Ranch, Niza Knoll Gallery, the Art Students League of Denver's Summer Art Market, and the juried ArTini auction presented by Arts Alliance Tulsa. Her paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States and internationally.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings focus on the still moments that shape our lives. I am inspired by the connections that make ordinary experiences meaningful, whether I am painting a woman, a landscape, flowering blooms, or the bond between a person and an animal.
I use bold colors, simple shapes, and expressive compositions. I paint from memory and emotion, working to capture the feeling of a moment instead of its exact details. Through color, I try to create warmth, playfulness, or reflection, welcoming viewers to connect with each painting.
Many of my paintings start with moments from my own life, but I hope they become more than just my memories. A walk with a dog, a childhood memory, a quiet afternoon, or a recognizable landscape can invite others to remember their own stories. I want my work to trigger curiosity and connection, reminding us that those moments we often overlook are the ones that stay with us the longest.
If someone leaves my work with a smile, thinking of a place they love, or seeing themselves in a painting, then I feel I have achieved my goal.
